Breast Reduction

Despite what society may propagate, bigger is not necessarily always better. For women struggling with large breasts that are inhibiting them physically or mentally, breast reduction surgery with Dr. Thornton can help achieve a smaller, more proportionate size of the breasts.

Is Breast Reduction A Good Fit for You?

Having large breasts can be a hindrance for many women. Breasts that are overly large or disproportionate to the rest of a woman’s body can cause several physical issues including:

  • Back pain
  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Rashes and chaffing
  • Difficulty exercising
  • Difficulty finding clothes that fit

Overly large breasts may also lead to mental and emotional issues such as self-consciousness and a negative self-image. A breast reduction procedure with Dr. Thornton can help free you from the burden you’re carrying by providing you with breasts that better fit the rest of you.

What You Can Expect from Your Breast Reduction Surgery And Recovery

Your breast reduction with Dr. Thornton will be designed to remove excess breast tissue to alleviate the strain on your back and neck. During your procedure, you will be placed under a general anesthetic. Dr. Thornton will then remove excess breast tissue and skin to reshape your breasts. Liposuction can also be used to remove any excess fat from your breasts.

Once Dr. Thornton reshapes the breasts to a smaller size, the skin is tightened over the breasts to achieve a youthful look, and the incisions are closed. She will then apply surgical dressings and a special compression garment to help your breasts heal properly and minimize swelling.

Your breasts will continue to improve in appearance over the next few weeks as bruising and swelling fades. It is recommended that you take at least two to four weeks off of work, and spend time resting at home. As you heal, you will notice an improvement in the look of your breasts, and the issues you had with your old breasts, such as back pain, will fade away.
