Breast Implants

A woman often considers her breasts to be the most feminine part of her body. If she is unhappy with the look of her breasts due to their natural size or changes that have taken place over time, she may easily become self-conscious or uncomfortable with her body. Louisville plastic surgeon, Dr. Thornton focuses his practice on breast surgery and understands what these procedures can do for his patients. A breast augmentation procedure with Dr. Thornton can help give you the fullness and natural look that you desire for your breasts.

  • Correct problems with breast asymmetry
  • Restore breast volume lost due to pregnancy, breast feeding, weight loss, or aging

  • The size of your breast implants
  • Your breast implant type: silicone or saline

  • Where in the breast your implants will be placed: submuscular or subglandular placement
  • The type of incision made for your breast augmentation: in the crease below the breast, or around the areola

What You Can Expect from Your Breast Augmentation Surgery And Recovery

From the moment you walk into our practice to the moment you look in the mirror to see your final results, Dr. Thornton will provide you with the utmost care to give you peace of mind throughout the entire process. You will sleep throughout your outpatient augmentation surgery under general anesthesia. Dr. Thornton will then make an incision based on what was discussed during your consultation. A pocket is then created for the implant either beneath the pectoral muscle (submuscular) and your implant is then carefully put into place. Silicone gel implants will be placed pre-filled whereas saline implants will be put into place before being filled with the saline solution. After the surgery, the patient goes home in an elastic bra. Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication.   Sutures are placed under the skin and do not need to be removed.   Light activities can be resumed as tolerated and aerobic activities or exercise can be started in about 4 weeks. Once your surgery is complete, Dr. Thornton will review through any important instructions and provide you with detailed guidelines for your recovery.
